ASPB is constantly striving to provide the most quality entertainment for the UC Riverside campus. In order to cater to the many tastes of the campus, ASPB is organized into the CONCERTS, FILMS & LECTURES, CONTEMPORARY CULTURE, SPECIAL EVENTS and MARKETING Divisions. We are always looking for student feedback for our events. Email ASPB at aspb@ucr.edu or stop by our office anytime between 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday (HUB 111, located next to the C-Store and across from the ATMs/The Exchange). We hope to see you at our events!

The Leadership division is comprised of the Chairperson , the Vice chairperson and the Marketing Chairperson. They maintain the internal structure of ASPB by mediating and leading the five programming and marketing divisions with help from the ASPB advisor. Leadership is also responsible for reaching out to student organizations, campus departments and UCR alumni for collaborations. They handle all student development activities including recruitment and leadership training as well as programming quarterly retreats for the entire board. Leadership is also in charge of ASPB initiatives such as the VIP Program, Events Team, Co-Sponsorship Grants and Quarter for a Cause.

Throughout the year, the concerts division produces two large-scale concerts.  In the Fall, they celebrate the beginning of the year with Block Party.  In the Spring, they welcome the feel-good season with Spring Splash. This division also produces small- scale concerts called “Nooners” at the Belltower on Wednesday afternoons and hosts concerts at the Barn on special occasion.  In recent years, ASPB has brought to the UCR campus One Republic, the Cataracs, Estelle, Nas, Common, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, J.Cole, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz!

The Special Events Division fosters Highlander Spirit by programming events during Welcome Week and Homecoming Week, which include days full of activities, attractions, and excitement! The division also works on bringing out comedians for UCRʼs largest comedy show, and works closely with UCR Athletics throughout the year. Special Eventʼs biggest program, Bonfire, happens in preparation for UCRʼs Homecoming basketball game. This event features a variety of attractions, DJs, a firework show, and of course, a gigantic bonfire burning the opposing teamʼs mascot.

The Films & Lectures division is responsible for premiering movies before they hit theaters and for also bringing out popular speakers and panels that focus on a wide variety of topics from pop culture to politics. Recently we have premiered such films as The Great Gatsby, Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hangover 3, and Gangster Squad. Past speakers include Nev Schulman of Catfish, rapper Murs, Entourage creator Doug Elin, Johnny Cupcakes, and Ron Jeremy.

The Contemporary Culture division explores current worldly ideas and concepts through entertainment: seeking to educate students by hosting events that facilitate both unusual and pertinent conversations between people with different perspectives and experiences. This division sheds light upon all kinds of cultures found in our society and identifies how their interactions are relevant in the world and to students at UCR. Events such as Rʼ Movement ,Winter SOULstice, the Sum of All Equals Change Conference, and More Than Spoken Word are examples of how this division works to challenge the students of UCR by exposing them to alternative styles of entertainment.

The Marketing Division devises creative strategies and campaigns contributing to the advertising, promotion, publicity, and social media/personal outreach of all ASPB events. Additionally, the Marketing Division is ASPB’s primary source of artistic designs and media creation- including, but not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and web design work as well as professional video and photography management.
